I believe this to be a vintage pottery bowl with hat that can be used probably mostly for guacamole or salsa.
Most of the items I see from Whittier pottery are chip and dip dishes. I have not seen one that the lid came off of.
The diameter is 7 1/2 inches and is about 2 1/2 inches on the bowl side. With the hat on top, it adds about another two and three-quarter inches. This is made to look like a straw hat. Very unusual piece. It weighs 1 lbs. 9 1/8 oz.
